Autumn Glory

What a day Saturday 18th October 2009. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and the Autumn colours were out in all their glory. What could we do today? Take the wife to Glencoe and take a few shots when i'm there, everybody's happy. It seemed everybody else had the same idea. Hillwalkers, photographers, bikers and Sunday drivers all made the most of this beautiful day. Thank the Lord we all did, for today it is as bleak and miserable as is normal. Oh well at least I have my pictures to look at!

Portinatx

I have just returned after 11 nights chilling out in the small resort of Portinatx,in the north of Ibiza, the smaller of the Balearic Islands. There are no more than 9 hotels in this resort with two small beaches and lovely blue warm shallow water. Although a small resort there was enough for me and the better half to pass the time, a few small pubs and restaurants and some easy walks. Being in the north I did not see any famous Ibiza sunsets. The picture above was taken at 8am the earilest I was up during the holiday, and only because I was waiting on the coach for the airport! So if its San Antonio or its like your are looking for stay away!

Bruce Springsteen

I was at the Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band gig last night at Hampden Park Glasgow. The guy played for just under 3 hours non-stop and would have played on if it was not for the 11pm curfew! Pure rock and roll the place was jumping, no special effects just unadulterated rock music. He showed the young pretenders how it should be done. Several highlights the obvious being Born to Run, my all time favourite rock anthem. A great night appreciated by the 50000 fans .

Last of the Mochians

This guy was spectating at Knockhill Racing Circuit, I could not take my eyes off him, what a character subject! Managed a few discreet shots.Converted to black and white using Silver Effects Pro.

Aiden

Grabed this shot of Aiden sitting still for a few seconds at the kitchen sink window. I was going to try the same shot again with a reflector (s/steel sink cover) but he wasn't having any of it. I like it anyway.

Words with different meanings

Found this sign in the Canarys.Obviously the word "Banarse" in Spanish has a totally different meaning in English.Appeals to my sense of humour.

My Early Modelling Career

Still on the nostalgia trip, this is me at 15 still at school. My mates and myself's first attempt at taking, processing, and printing my very first b/w print. The modelling career never took off.

Last week was mine and the better halves 35th wedding anniversary. As it is Emerald I tried everywhere to get a card. Found it impossible so tried Moonpig.com. The resultant card in an old movie poster style is the result. We are both about 18 in the photo. The wife loved it!

Looking down from the walls of Dubrovnik Old Town, the colours of the peddlers wares caught my eye! To highlight them I did a bit of basic selection and desaturation

Silver Efex Pro

Took this shot in Sardinia last summer. Orginal is in colour, but the black and white treatment applied using Siver Efex Pro gives it an old worldy look more in keeping with the surrondings. I think so anyway. The dog looks placid until you approach the bikes, didn't fancy a rabid bite so took a detour.

Nurse Ratchett

The better half of ME has just had some surgery and will be off work so I will be the BOSS for a few weeks and will be Nurse Ratchett for a wee while. For those of you not as old as me Nurse Ratchett was the evil uncaring nurse from "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest" movie.

In God's Country

I am really pleased with this shot. The light lasted for about 30 seconds so I had to work fast and hand held the camera. The location overlooks Loch Duich with the 5 Sisters of Kintail to the right. I did not include them in the shot as they were hardly visible at the time.

A Cup of Tea @ the Holiday Inn Express

Just returned from spending 3 nights @ the Holiday Inn Express Brimingham, the rooms are very nice etc and my work were footing the bill for BB@E meal excluding drinks. Seems fair enough, I'm not far enough up the managerial levels to have this concession. Having said this I was not prepared for the fuss that asking for a cup of tea with my dinner would cause. Shock, horror this jobsworth pulled out a file @ checked if I was entitled to this extravagance! Alas she was unable to confirm, and gave me one anyway. Later in the evening she took great pleasure informing me that tea was not included and in future would have to pay. What a PRAT, tea @ coffee factilitys are provided in the room so why the big deal.No doubt this PRAT will climb the promotion ladder, be the cause of the hotel chain going into bankruptcy and retire with a £690000 a year pension! And all because she gave me A Cup of Tea @ the Holiday Inn Express.

Happy Birthday 3rd Birthday

My second granddaughter was 3 years old on Thursday 12 February. She kindly agreed to sit still for 30 seconds and allow me to take a few pictures. A rare shot indeed. Who would be a child photographer!

The End is Nigh!!

Looks like the end of Jessops Camera Shops with nationwide closure of stores this week of 17+ . Soon we won't have any decent camera shops left (but were they decent) to get the hands on feel before we buy elsewere or price match. On the upside I might get my Sony Alpha 700 at a reduced price if they go down the EVERYTHING MUST GO route. Decided not to take up the Ebay seller on his offer, thanks for the advice Kenny.

To Ebay or not 2Ebay

Just missed out on a Sony Alpha 700 Dslr by £20. Thinking about upgrading since my KM7d was playing up on Saturday. The seller has contacted me with regards buying another of his stock. I'm not to clued up on this Ebay lark and am a bit wary! Will give it some thought.

Just Came Doon Fae The Isle 'O' Skye

Got back on Saturday night around 7:30pm. Great day we experienced 4 seasons in one day. Think I have got some reasonable shots. This shot of The Old Man of Storr on Skye was taken from a couple of miles from it as Joe felt the roads and incoming storm made it too risky to proceed any further. Well he was driving ! A few minutes after I took this shot you could not see the mountain as it was engulfed in a blizzard. Great stuff !

Oh My God Its Snowing!!!

The UK ground to a halt today! Yes a very strange thing happened today Monday the 2nd of February 2009, it actually snowed. Airports closed, public transport cancelled, schools closed. Get a grip for God's sake, the local councils are warned well in advance so were is there stockpiled grit.Yes stockpiled in a silo were it stays! The TV and Radio do not help going on and on and on about this strange WINTER "phenonium". Well tomorrow it will rain and it will be all over for another year, London will reopen, GMTV will be hoping something newsworthy happens overnight and people will have to resort to the usual excuses to phone in sick!

My First Post

I have finally joined the world of Bloggers. It has taken a while but I hope to post some images old and new on a regular basis. This photo is of Buchaille Etive Mhor, found in Glencoe Scotland. It is the most famous of the Munros in Scotland and is 3352 feet high. The most photographed and beautiful of Munros can also be the most deadly.Unfortunately 3 men lost their lives on Sunday 25th January 2009 when an avalanche swept down the mountain. An average 26 deaths occur on Scottish mountains annually.
